Piglet

We have all seen the picture of Winnie the Pooh and Piglet sitting on the log. I think there is a lesson to be learned from their conversation.

“Today was a Difficult Day,” said Pooh.

There was a pause.

“Do you want to talk about it?” asked Piglet.

“No,” said Pooh after a bit. “No, I don’t think I do.”

“That’s okay,” said Piglet, and he came and sat beside his friend.

“What are you doing?” asked Pooh.

“Nothing, really,” said Piglet. “Only, I know what Difficult Days are like. I quite often don’t feel like talking about it on my Difficult Days either.

“But goodness,” continued Piglet, “Difficult Days are so much easier when you know you’ve got someone there for you. And I’ll always be here for you, Pooh.”

And as Pooh sat there, working through in his head his Difficult Day, while the solid, reliable Piglet sat next to him quietly, swinging his little legs…he thought that his best friend had never been more right.”

Following Christmas of 2019, I had a Pooh and Piglet moment. I received a call from a friend enquiring as to what she could do for me, to possibly help relieve the load of grief from the loss of my husband, just 1 week earlier. When I gave the standard “Really nothing I can think of” To which she replies” Then can I just come over and sit with you.?’

So, she, like Piglet, came and sat on the other end of my log, (On the floor beside my footstool).while I finished my husband’s obituary on the laptop. Can’t explain why sitting in mostly silence meant so much. I guess to repeat the words of Piglet. Difficult days are just easier when you are not alone.

Proverbs 11:25 says the person who refreshes others, will they themselves be refreshed.

MY interpretation of that, is while it is such a blessing to have someone share the other end of our log on difficult days.

We are doubly blessed when we get to be Piglet; for someone else.

Blessings!  Thanks for reading!

  2. I sure did enjoy this hope. I was inspired to do more to be a piglet. I know at times when I’ve been in the hospital even for some thing that was scheduled. I just wanted someone to just sit there with me. Unfortunately during Covid when I had a hospital stay, that was not possible. So I just need to pray that more of the piglet thing, comes into my life.

  3. Thank you Hope, for sharing the analogy of Piglet! So true about just sitting with someone. It brings such compassion to a hurting soul. God is good ALLthe time! 🙌 even if we don’t see it right away. Hind sight is always 20/20! Hugs my friend!
